No Pens Day lessons are a fantastic way to spice things up a little in the classroom for every learner - with minimum additional resources needed. These lessons are also a lovely and inclusive way to do something a little differently in order to appeal to neurodivergent learners who struggle with the formality of normal day-to-day schooling.
This lesson focuses on both standard and flexible partitioning for 5-digit and 6-digit numbers. Students are taken through an interactive lesson input and then encouraged to represent partitioned numbers using tiny blobs of colour using cotton buds and paint on their worksheets. This also helps with practise of fine motor skills for those who find holding and controlling a pen/pencil difficult (but guaranteed they’ll find this more fun than holding a pencil!)
This pack contains:
- Detailed Maths lesson plan
- Teaching Input Powerpoint (19 slides)
- Answer Key included for teaching input
- 2 x Partitioning Worksheets (1 for 5-digit numbers, 1 for 6-digit numbers)
Additional resources needed:
- Cotton buds
- Poster paint
*** ALSO AVAILABLE at a less challenging level for KS1 and LKS2 ***
