Starting your NQT year can feel overwhelming. Between planning, teaching and gathering evidence, it can be difficult to slow down and think carefully about the foundations of learning.

This workbook is designed as a practical thinking space for NQTs working within Curriculum for Wales. It supports teachers in developing clear, intentional learning objectives, meaningful success criteria and a stronger understanding of progression in the classroom.

Rather than another document to read, this workbook provides guided reflection, examples and space to practise key elements of effective planning.

This resource helps teachers:

  • Write skill-focused learning objectives
  • Develop process and product success criteria
  • Understand what progression looks like in practice
  • Reflect on learner independence in the classroom
  • Link planning to the Professional Standards for Teaching and Leadership (Wales)

Designed for NQTs and teachers working within Curriculum for Wales, this workbook can be used alongside normal planning to strengthen curriculum thinking and support professional development.
