Complete No-Prep lesson with exam questions, tasks and answers on Nuclear Fission for AQA GCSE (9-1) Science / Physics. This lessons covers all of AQA GCSE Physics 4.4.4.1.
As a Secondary Science teacher and Deputy Headteacher for many years I make high quality no-prep lessons so busy teachers can teach outstanding lessons without spending hours planning. This high quality lesson includes explanations, different types of in-lesson assessment (all with answers) and unique exam questions.
My lessons are ideal for non-Physicists - as a Biologist who retrained as a Physics teacher I know how to take learners on a journey that builds up their understanding step by step, while still going into a lot of depth. The preview video shows a representative sample of slides from the resource so that you get a good idea of what it includes before you buy.
What’s Included:
• Starter / Do Now Activity
• Explanation slides in “chunked” sections with animated diagrams.
• Worked examples of calculations / questions.
• Multiple questions in different question styles and difficulties - no need for worksheets. Each “chunked” explanation section typically includes a set of “learning check / quick questions” followed by a set of in-depth questions on the learning from that “chunk” of the lesson. All questions have answers.
• Exam-style questions on the whole lesson at the end of the lesson- these are unique, based on real exam questions but not just copied from exam boards.
• Answers for all questions
• All easily editable to adapt to your teaching or to use in existing lessons.
• Slightly humorous, at points, if you like that sort of thing.
Learning objectives:
- Describe the process of nuclear fission.
- Describe the difference between spontaneous fission and induced fission.
- Describe how fission produces two daughter nuclei, two or three more neutrons and gamma rays and is accompanied by a release of energy.
- Describe the energy store that the products of nuclear fission have.
- Explain why nuclear fission can cause a chain reaction and how the chain reaction can be controlled, including in a reactor core.
- Explain how an uncontrolled chain reaction can cause an explosion such as in an atomic bomb.
- Describe how a controlled chain reaction can be used to generate electricity.
The lesson was written for AQA GCSE Science / Physics but is very likely to be applicable to other exam specifications.

Atomic Structure and Radioactivity Bundle – AQA GCSE Physics
**Atomic Structure and Radioactivity Bundle: 8 complete, no-prep PowerPoint lessons** covering all of AQA GCSE Physics 4.4 and Combined Science (Trilogy) 6.4, **with exam questions, worked examples, tasks and answers** – no worksheets needed. Covers the structure of the atom, atomic and mass numbers, isotopes, the development of the atomic model (plum pudding, Rutherford's alpha scattering experiment, Bohr and Chadwick), alpha, beta and gamma radiation, nuclear equations, activity and half-life, contamination and irradiation, background radiation, uses of radiation in medicine, and nuclear fission and fusion. If you only teach Combined Science, this bundle includes three GCSE Physics-only lessons you won't need (Radiation in Medicine & Background Radiation, Nuclear Fission and Nuclear Fusion). This alternative bundle contains only the lessons needed for Combined Science: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/bundle-atomic-structure-combined-science-12655211 As a Secondary Science teacher and Deputy Headteacher for many years I make high quality **no-prep** lessons so busy teachers can teach **outstanding lessons without spending hours planning.** These high quality lessons includes explanations, different types of in-lesson assessment (all **with answers**) and **unique exam questions**. Bundle: Radiation - Physics Only
**A bundle of complete No-Prep lessons** with **exam questions, tasks and answers** for the *Physics only* aspects of the radiation topic. This bundle contains lessons covering all of 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 for AQA GCSE (9-1) Physics. I am selling three different bundles for this topic, please pick the right one for your needs: * The Atomic Structure Topic (Physics) bundle contains all the lessons needed to teach the Atomic Structure topic for GCSE Physics: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/bundle-atoms-and-isotopes-12653879 * The Atomic Structure (Combined Science) bundle contains all the lessons you need to teach this topic for Combined Science but is cheaper because it does not contain the three lessons that are only needed for GCSE Physics: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/resource-12655211 * This bundle only contains the three lessons that are needed for GCSE Physics only, and is useful if you have previously planned (or purchased) lessons to teach Combined Science but are now teaching GCSE Physics and need the additional lessons.
