Linear equations whole class activity which covers one and two step linear equations. This activity is excellent for differentiation as it allows for pupils to choose their own level of question and progress to the next difficulty at their own speed. It also encourages pupils to work together independently to solve their difficulties instead of instantly relying on the teacher. I have used it many times with my classes and it has proved to be a highly engaging resource for pupils.

Instructions:
- Print off the card sets on red, amber and green card respectively and place
each set of cards somewhere in the room (keeping the same colours together).
- All pupils start on a red card (one step addition/subtraction).
- Pupils attempt the question on their card writing their answer and their initials on the
back.
- Pupils fetch another card and repeat.
- If pupils pick a card that has been completed, they check the answer. If they come
to the same answer they add their initials to the back. If they disagree they find
the original pupil and discuss the question together.
- Pupils move up to the next level of difficulty when they feel they are ready.
