Ontario Learning Skills Comments Gr 1-8

Ontario, Grades 1-8: 300 learning skills comments and a comment picker for Excel and Google Sheets. Type first names, rate each student E, G, S or N on the six learning skills, and the picker builds a paragraph for every student: strengths from the highest-rated skills, next steps from the lowest. Then read, edit and paste.

For the fall progress report (October to November) and both provincial report cards (February and June). Aligned with the 2023 Ontario report card templates.

What’s included:

• 252 learning skills comments: Responsibility, Organization, Independent Work, Collaboration, Initiative and Self-Regulation, each with strengths and next steps for E, G, S and N
• 48 openings and closings for the Fall Progress Report, the Term 1 Report Card and the Term 2 Report Card, in a warmer tone (ratings mostly E/G) and a neutral tone (any student)
• The comment picker for up to 40 students (Excel .xlsx; opens in Google Sheets)
• A 26-page PDF of every comment by skill and rating, with character counts, the six skills in plain words and the E/G/S/N scale

How the picker works:

• Choose the report and how many strengths (1-3) and next steps (0-2) each comment gets
• Character counter: type your report software’s limit and any comment over it turns red
• Classmates with the same ratings usually get different sentences; Try another and Variation reshuffle the wording
• Switch the report in February or June: new openings and closings, and different skill lines for each student
• He/She is optional; leave it blank to use the first name throughout
• Add your own comments to the Bank tab and the picker uses them straight away

Written for Ontario classrooms: Canadian spelling (behaviour, organize, practise, labelled), a pronoun-free comment bank, no marks, levels or grades, and kind, honest N comments that say what helps. Works offline in Excel and Google Sheets: no add-ons, no sign-ins, and names stay in your own copy.
