This lesson runs an entire pop-up shop through the numbers GCSE Foundation students need most - multiplying and dividing by powers of 10, then finding a percentage of an amount two different ways (decomposition and the multiplier method), before tackling percentage increase and decrease. Every method is grounded in the same running theme: bulk-buying stock, pricing a launch discount, and adjusting for a rent rise, so the maths never feels disconnected from why it matters.
Each of the four topics now gets a fully worked example followed by practice questions, giving a live check of understanding before moving on rather than waiting until later in the lesson to find out who’s grasped it. All diagrams have been rebuilt as clean, editable visuals - including a corrected powers-of-10 number line that now displays without any overlapping labels. The lesson closes with a genuine collaborative challenge: groups price their own pop-up shop stock from scratch, working through a bulk cost, a launch mark-up, and a rent-rise adjustment together.
Includes the full slide deck plus a complete set of matching resources: Student Handout, tiered Independent Practice, the Pop-Up Shop Challenge collaborative activity, Peer Assessment, Exit Ticket, Loop Cards, Teacher’s Handout with a full answer key, and a Teacher’s Lesson Plan with complete timing across every phase of the lesson. In addition, there is a mind map and a poster expressing the importance of percentage in our everyday lives.
