Introduction
This assignment will critique the developments I have made as a teacher so far, from starting the PGCE course to date, having completed my first school placement. As a trainee teacher it is important to continually reflect on development in order to recognise areas of strengths and weaknesses. I found the workload on my first placement intense and it was easy to get distracted by my weekly ‘to do’ list and not take the time to recognise the developments I was making. However, I soon recognised that reflecting on my development and making sense of the experience was beneficial to improving as a teacher. This assignment will focus on the three areas of self-development I recognised during my teaching experience: behaviour management, inclusion and teacher identity.
I will be using Gibb’s (1988) Reflective Cycle to reflect on my development as a teacher so far. Gibb’s (1988) model encourages reflecting on individual experiences after they occur, creating an understanding and learning from these events to develop an action plan for future experiences (Paige, Lambert & Geeson, 2020).
