What’s it for?
This activity set is designed to practise and reinforce the first eighteen sounds of Phase 2 Phonics: s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k and ck e b r u h. Learners develop essential early reading skills by sounding out the CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words on the ‘word cards’ and matching them to the corresponding images on the ‘picture cards’.

Who’s it for?
This resource is for Early Years and Reception children starting phonics. It is also excellent for Year One pupils needing revision. Use it for students requiring additional learning support or intervention.

This activity suits independent practice and small group work. The resource is ideal for adult-led support or home learning.

Getting Started
The activity is quick and easy to set up for independent or guided work:

• Cut along the dotted lines to separate the 8 picture cards and 8 word cards (16 cards in total, found on pages 1 and 2).
• Shuffle the cards and place them face up on a table.
• Learners then practise their segmenting and blending skills to match the correct word card to its corresponding picture card.
