Move beyond routine plotting with linked stages, missing values and constrained velocity-time graphs with this editable Year 10 Maths Higher PowerPoint. Project the lesson and keep the whole class working without photocopied worksheets. Pupils use mini whiteboards for short checks and exercise books for independent graph drawing.
Higher requires pupils to work backwards from endpoints, convert time units, combine successive stages and recover missing starting velocities or braking rates. Questions use total journey times and relationships between accelerating and braking durations. Reasoning tasks ask pupils to establish limits and justify what is possible.

PRACTICAL PRINT FREE TEACHING
AFL questions ask pupils to calculate, state coordinates or explain a decision. They do not need to copy a grid onto a mini whiteboard. Independent practice retains graph drawing in books, with selected tasks identified clearly.
CLEAR GRAPHS AND CONNECTED WORKING
Square grids, contrasting graph lines and labelled axes help pupils connect each coordinate with a stage of motion. Worked answers show how velocity changes and stage durations produce the next endpoint.
REASONING WITH A PURPOSE
The Super Challenge sets limits on acceleration and deceleration, together with a minimum cruise time. Pupils find the greatest possible peak velocity, draw a graph that achieves it and prove the maximum. They then find every possible cruise duration for a different specified peak.
CHECK THE MISCONCEPTIONS
The lesson distinguishes duration from elapsed time and checks the meaning of horizontal and sloping segments. The differentiated page gives the whole class access to different starting points, with a clear divider above the Super Challenge.
