✓Performance Rubric
* The notebook templates provide the opportunity for students to write drafts prior to publishing their poems. The structure of each poem type is scaffolded in the foldables to guide students in each step. Model each poem type prior to students working on the foldable. I also show the notebook template on the interactive whiteboard and model the assembly instructions. The poem sample (colour poster) can then be shown for students to read and see what the finished poem sounds like and looks like.
** You can also print out copies of the assembly instructions of notebook templates and leave them in your centres for students to refer to when assembling and composing their own poems.
The colour poster samples of each poem type may also be placed in your literacy centres along with lined sheets. Students can simply write their poems observing the instructions and sample in the poster. A checklist is also included, so students can record the poems completed.
* The blackline poster samples can be glued in students’ notebooks for reference.
* Each notebook template is accompanied with colour photographs showing assembly instructions. There are also bonus templates included for some poem types.
The published version of poems can be compiled into an Anthology of Poem Types. Compile the final published versions (written on lined sheets) together with cover sheet after all poem types are completed.
EDITABLE POWERPOINT
Use the editable PowerPoint to edit poem content. Type in the textboxes to record students’ responses for each poem type in a whole class/small group instruction session.
* These poem types that comprise the anthology will be a valuable keepsake for your students to cherish and indeed a creative outlet for their ‘thoughts to become words’.
