Poppies

Inspired by the John McCrae poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ this moving two part song with powerful language like ‘Unspoken eulogy, blood red bouquet’ and ‘As the graves of worldwide soldiers cry ‘Make all wars cease’’ is essentially a reminder of the bravery of all soldiers lost in conflict but also a plea for peace. The song would make a thought provoking addition to an assembly or service for the centenary of WW1. There is a simple optional harmony in the second verse and two choruses which combine to make a ‘Quodlibet’ for the finale.
