Portraiture through Silhouettes

This Unit of Work (4-6 lessons)was designed to promote student self-identity and build their self-esteem through a graphical silhouette self-portrait.

Using the silhouette allows the students to create an accurate portrait while allowing them to find ways of capturing expression with in a piece of artwork. I've found students to have difficulties with portraiture and get very frustrated, thus giving up early into the project. Because this project is based on photography students drawing abilities are not essential(to a degree) their outcomes are successful and their creativity soars. It was amazing for me to see, given the opportunity just how creative some of my students could be. Students have enjoyed exploring ICT media while creating in thei project.
