Personal hygiene activities and visual routines help learners with autism practise daily self-care, sequence tasks and build independence.
I created this resource to teach familiar hygiene routines in manageable steps. Realistic photo visuals connect everyday actions with the tools students need, while differentiated activities let teachers adjust the support they provide.
What Is IncludedThis 96-page resource includes:
- A 14-page personal hygiene social narrative
- 8 visual self-care routines, with schedules and sequencing pieces
- 8 hygiene tools for identification and vocabulary practice
- 36 differentiated task cards
- 24 everyday hygiene scenarios
- 12 differentiated worksheets
- An interactive adapted book with matching pieces
- Assessment, progress monitoring, home-school support, answer keys and teacher guidance
Routines cover handwashing, brushing teeth, washing the face, brushing or combing hair, bathing or showering, bathroom hygiene, clean clothes and nail care.
Skills and DifferentiationStudents practise identifying tools, sequencing actions, choosing appropriate responses and asking for help.
I included three support levels: strong, moderate and reduced visual support. Task cards offer one, two or three picture choices. Students can respond through speech, pointing, sign or AAC.
Classroom and Home UseI recommend beginning with one routine. Read the social narrative, model the visual steps and introduce the matching activities.
Use the materials for individual instruction, small groups, life skills lessons, speech therapy or home practice. Repeat familiar activities and record the support students need as they practise.
Recommended ForPrimary learners, approximately ages 6–8, including autistic students and students with special educational needs. Select activities and support levels according to each learner’s needs.
Files and PrintingIncludes a PDF and editable PowerPoint (PPTX) in one ZIP file.
The colour PDF uses US Letter, 8.5 × 11 inches, and CMYK. Print at 100% actual size, keeping activity pages and matching pieces at the same scale. Laminate and cut reusable materials, adding hook-and-loop fasteners where needed.
Images are AI-generated realistic photo visuals.
