This is a complete activity for testing Matching Hypothesis. It is a chance for students to take the lead on some actual psychological research and better understand the ideas behind matching hypothesis.
In groups students must choose and experimenter. They ask everyone else to rate the attractiveness of the photos on the 'Photo Rating Survey' and record this in the table on the 'Rating Tables' sheet. A score of 1-10 should be agreed in the group.
Using simply maths of averages the experimenter then calculates if the 'real couples' are more or less closely rated on attractiveness than the 'posed couples'. The calculation is explained at the end of the 'Rating Tables' sheet.
