This resource is for advanced KS4 students. The resource consists of a lesson presentation plus worksheet with the presentation including worked solutions.
The lesson starts with revision of sharing by a ratio. There is then an example of sharing two amounts in two ratios but with one amount given. The students then complete an exercise of 3 similar questions.
The students then tackle problems where no amount is given. The students are given a method for choosing a hypothetical value for the smaller amount: summing the numbers in both ratios and finding the product of those sums. Mini whiteboard work follows to check students understand this method, before they tackle a second set of 3 questions.
