Reading for Pleasure KS2 | 10-Minute Teacher CPD | 2026 Education Committee Inquiry

A ready-to-deliver 10-minute CPD resource for KS2 teachers, exploring the findings and classroom implications of the 2026 Education Committee Inquiry Report on Reading for Pleasure.

The session is deliberately practical: staff READ what the report says, REFLECT on what it means for KS2 practice and ACT on realistic changes that can be made within existing classroom routines. The presentation includes a focused paired discussion and distinguishes between actions teachers can influence and wider responsibilities for school leaders, trusts and government.

The CPD focuses on four memorable priorities:
PROTECT reading time • MODEL being a reader • WIDEN access for SEND • LISTEN using a Reading Pulse

Staff then choose from five practical actions to try this week, including protecting purposeful book talk, modelling reading, widening access to different formats and trialling a simple Reading Pulse.

The resource also includes practical Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 book recommendations, with an emphasis on visibility, choice and accessible formats, before finishing with a clear next step for staff.

Included:
• 20-slide teacher CPD PowerPoint
• Designed for approximately 10 minutes of CPD
• Evidence and policy context made accessible
• Built-in 90-second paired discussion
• Five practical classroom actions
• Reading Pulse guidance
• SEND and accessibility focus
• Year 3–6 reading recommendations
• A4 CPD At A Glance sheet summarising the key learning and actions

Ideal for staff meetings, English/reading leadership, phase meetings, inset sessions and short professional-development slots.
