Teach reflection with this editable, 67-slide Year 8 maths PowerPoint. Pupils reflect shapes in horizontal and vertical lines, identify mirror-line equations, recognise fixed vertices and recover original coordinates. Examples include axes and other horizontal or vertical mirrors.

Designed for print-free teaching: pupils write coordinates in exercise books or on mini-whiteboards. They do not need to copy grids, draw reflected shapes or use printed worksheets. Projected diagrams, coordinate answers and visual checks support learning.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?
• One editable PowerPoint containing 67 slides.
• Six retrieval questions with grouped answers.
• Six prerequisite questions with grouped answers.
• Illustrated vocabulary covering reflection, mirror line, perpendicular distance, corresponding vertices and invariant points.
• Teaching examples showing equal distances on opposite sides of a mirror.
• Six matched I Do/We Do examples and worked answers.
• Twenty AFL questions, each followed by its answer slide.
• Twenty-four minimally different practice questions, with answers and visual checks.
• Eight Developing, eight Secure and five Greater Depth questions, plus a three-part Super Challenge, on one page.
• Answers for all differentiated questions and the challenge.

MODELLING AND GUIDED PRACTICE
The six examples form three matched pairs: (1) with (4), (2) with (5), and (3) with (6). The sequence moves from reflection in an axis to a vertical mirror away from the axis, then identifying a mirror from an object and its image. Worked answers show which coordinate stays unchanged and how equal distances or midpoints determine the result.

PRACTICE AND PROGRESSION
The main practice page contains 24 questions using two displayed triangles. The mirror moves one unit at a time. Pupils reflect each original triangle in vertical and horizontal lines, including mirrors through the shape or through a vertex. Answers follow the original vertex order.

Developing uses a triangle with different dimensions from both practice triangles. Secure includes finding mirror lines, transferring a reflection to another point, recovering an original point, identifying fixed vertices, correcting an error and combining two reflections. Greater Depth asks pupils to justify compatible point mappings, explain fixed points and preserved area, and assess whether a reflection has been checked fully.

SUPER CHALLENGE
Pupils reflect a triangle in x = 0 and then x = 2, before repeating the task in the opposite order. They give the final coordinates, describe each result as a translation and explain why changing the order changes the outcome. The solution includes a general coordinate argument.

CLASSROOM PRESENTATION
Grids use square cells, stronger lines and numbers beside the axes. Colour distinguishes the original, image and mirror. A divider separates the challenge from the other levels.

Suitable for Year 8, KS3 consolidation, tutoring and revision. Topic reference: M290.
