Regulation & Reflection Workbook

A practical, pupil-centred workbook designed to help children and young people understand their own regulation needs, rather than simply being told to “calm down”.

Through accessible teaching, visual activities and guided reflection, pupils explore how the brain and body respond to stress and overload, recognise their own early warning signs, identify sensory and environmental needs, and discover regulation strategies that genuinely work for them.

The workbook moves from understanding → noticing → trying strategies → reflecting → creating a personalised support plan.

Activities include brain and body awareness, regulation thermometers, stress and sensory exploration, masking, strategy experiments, movement and sensory regulation, asking for help, identifying safe people and places, post-incident reflection and creating an individual Regulation Passport.

The resource takes a nurture-informed, neurodiversity-affirming and regulation-first approach, recognising that behaviour communicates information and that meaningful reflection is most effective once a child is regulated.

Ideal for KS2, KS3 and KS4, SEND/SEN support, ADHD and ASC profiles, EOTAS/alternative provision, nurture groups, pastoral interventions, ELSA-style work, 1:1 support and whole-school wellbeing provision.

The goal isn’t to teach every child to regulate in the same way — it’s to help each child understand what their own brain and body need.
