A complete set of resources to teach an interactive student led lesson on the topic of electricity generation.

Resources include:

  • A cut and stick activity showing the steps of generating electricity in a fossil fuel powered station
  • A sorting activity to allow students to recognise the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy resources
  • A group work, market place style activity for students to visit four different stations and gather information on different methods of generating electricity
    (ideally students will be in groups of four and will take a method each to gather information and then return to the group to share)
  • a work sheet is included that asks students to gather information relating to how the power is generated, the advantages and the disadvantages.

Methods included are:
Coal power stations
Wind farms
Hydroelectric
Solar panels

  • An extension activity looking at sustainability and ethical issues posed by the generation of electricity in each of the stations visited.
