A two-page worksheet to introduce and practise Diwali vocabulary in French with GCSE classes, under the theme of customs, festivals and celebrations. Perfect for cover work, revision or cultural lessons before the holidays.

The activities include:

  • a wordsearch of key vocabulary to translate (dictionaries may be helpful)
  • a gap-fill using new words in context
  • a gap-fill exploring the origins and meaning of Diwali
  • a true or false activity based on the text
  • a short translation task
  • a writing activity describing a festive image

The worksheet takes around 45–50 minutes to complete. It reviews familiar topics such as food, clothes, celebrations and family, while developing GCSE reading, translation and writing skills. It’s also a great opportunity to explore inclusion and diversity through cultural learning.

Available in PDF and editable PPTX, in colour and black and white. Answers are included at the end.

I hope you and your students enjoy it.
