Challenge your C1 Spanish students with this creative, thought-provoking, and fun speaking activity designed to boost advanced fluency, argumentation, and spontaneity!
This resource encourages students to use “deberías / no deberías” (should / shouldn’t) in meaningful, persuasive, and often hilarious contexts — ideal for brain breaks, ice-breakers, or engaging communicative lessons.
What’s Included
This pack contains 2 printable PDFs (20 cards each) based on two advanced and stimulating themes:
- Situaciones absurdas y creatividad (Absurd Situations & Creativity)
- Sociedad y pensamiento crítico (Society & Critical Thinking)
Each card follows the same fun structure:
- “3 razones por las que SÍ deberías…”
- “3 razones por las que NO deberías…”
Both PDFs include the same statements but with different perspectives (yes vs. no), so learners can explore both sides of the argument — persuasive, creative, and often funny!
Learning Objectives
- Practice the advanced use of “deberías / no deberías” to express advice, moral reasoning, and hypothetical thinking.
- Develop fluency, coherence, and argumentative skills through spontaneous speech.
- Encourage humor, creativity, and critical thinking on abstract or absurd topics.
- Expand vocabulary related to society, values, creativity, and imagination.
How to Play
- A student takes a card and reads the statement aloud.
- They have about 1 minute (flexible) to improvise a mini-monologue with 3 persuasive reasons to convince the class.
- Classmates vote on which answer was the most funny, logical, absurd, or ridiculous.
The game can be played in two modes:
- Give 3 reasons why you should do something.
- Give 3 reasons why you shouldn’t do it.
Why You’ll Love It
- Ideal as a warm-up, fluency task, or communicative speaking game.
- Adaptable for young adults and adult learners.
- Perfect for debate, argumentation, and creative expression at C1 level.
