A short cinematic grammar escape room set in Paris, where students must use prepositions of place to navigate the city during a blackout and reach their hotel near the Eiffel Tower. Grammatical choices and map reading guide the experience, with subtle clues embedded throughout the journey.

Students begin at Gare du Nord and move through Paris, selecting the correct prepositions to progress. Optional revision moments are built in, allowing classes to recap key language and rules before continuing, while confident groups can move straight to the challenges.

What’s included

Three interactive grammar challenges focused on prepositions of place
○ Multiple-choice gap fill using map reading and point of view
du / de la / de l’ / des agreement practice using landmark names
○ Translation task using a range of Paris-themed sentences

Two optional revision slides
○ One covering common prepositions (sur, sous, devant, derrière, entre, à côté de, en face de, près de, loin de), with mnemonic tricks to avoid confusing meanings
○ One recapping the agreement rule for du / de la / de l’ / des
• Built-in visual cues and compass hints for support and self-checking
• Teacher guidance page with clear instructions and suggested pacing
• Optional memory sheet printout as extra support for students
• Accessible via link or QR code provided – no prep required

Designed for KS3-GCSE (Y9–11).
Approx. 10 minutes for GCSE groups / 15–20 minutes for Y9, depending on whether revision slides are used.

Best played projected on the board with speakers on to maintain the cinematic feel, though students can also complete it individually on devices. This works well as a creative plenary or revision burst to reinforce core grammar.

I hope your students enjoy finding their way through Paris.
