A complete poetry unit using symbolism and imagery to explore doubt, fear of failure, and the hidden potential students don’t yet recognise in themselves.
Across eight connected chapters, students follow a firefly who has not yet received his light. While his siblings illuminate the night sky with ease, he is left in the dark, convinced that something is wrong. In search of answers, he turns to an elder — and is set on a path of challenge, uncertainty, and the unknown.
In the classroom, this reflects a familiar experience: students often feel behind, lost, or less capable than those around them. Comparison quiets confidence, and potential remains unseen — not because it isn’t there, but because it hasn’t yet been recognised.
At its core, the unit asks:
What changes when students begin to see confusion not as failure, but as the beginning of understanding?
Rather than studying isolated poems, students move through a continuous narrative where ideas are introduced, revisited, and deepened across the story.
