A ready-to-teach narrative poetry text focused on symbolism and imagery, exploring fear of failure and the hidden potential students cannot always see in themselves.

Across eight connected chapters, students follow a firefly who has not yet received his light. While his siblings illuminate the night sky with ease, he is left in the dark, convinced that something is wrong. In search of answers, he turns to an elder — and is set on a path of challenge, uncertainty, and the unknown.

In the classroom, this reflects a familiar experience: teachers can often see what a student is capable of long before the student can. There are moments — a glimpse, a shift, a spark — where something almost clicks, but doubt returns and obscures the way.

At its core, the text asks:
What happens when we continue to believe — not only in ourselves, but in those around us?
