Harvest Festival KS1 – Year 2 RE / PSHE / Topic Lesson

A colourful, ready-to-use Harvest Festival lesson for Year 2, helping pupils explore why Harvest Festival is celebrated, where our food comes from and how people show gratitude by giving, singing and sharing. Pupils learn about crops and farming, the Harvest Moon and corn dollies, modern harvest celebrations, food banks and harvest festivals around the world.

The 20-slide lesson includes explicit vocabulary teaching, partner talk, retrieval questions, a worked example, guided practice, differentiated Mild / Spicy / Hot tasks, plenary and pupil self-assessment. The lesson also deliberately incorporates Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction, including daily review, new material in small steps, questioning and modelling.

Also included is the Harvest Festival At A Glance black-and-white colour-in learning sheet, bringing together key facts, vocabulary, farming and crops, traditions, celebrations around the world and sharing within the community.

Ideal for KS1 / Year 2 RE, PSHE, Harvest Festival, autumn, celebrations, food and farming, gratitude and community topics.

NB. This lesson was designed and written by a teacher. The draft PowerPoint was made by Claude AI, the graphically enhanced version was then
made by ChatGPT, and all editing was done by Copilot. Every stage was overseen, amended where necessary, and approved by a teacher. Total time approximately 3 hours.
