pH and buffer calculations are long, multi-step and easy to lose marks on: a missing square root, the wrong moles after mixing, or a pH given to the wrong decimal places. This workbook builds each calculation one skill at a time, in the order students need them.
Each skill has five parts:
• Learn it: the rule, with full definitions and a road map for every calculation
• See it: worked examples in numbered steps, with calculator key sequences
• Check it: what OCR examiners say, with common mistakes and examiner tips
• Try it: questions that get harder as you go
• Try it: OCR exam style: questions with OCR wording and mark allocations, with “OCR twist” notes on the unfamiliar parts
The exam section is a 50-mark paper modelled on OCR’s long pH calculations, including a six-mark level-of-response question. Every question has a full answer and an OCR-style mark scheme, with ECF, ALLOW / DO NOT ALLOW guidance and common errors. A “Where to go next” table sends students back to the skill they need.
