LESSON OBJECTIVES
• Explain the theological significance and evidence surrounding Jesus’ resurrection (e.g., divinity, empty tomb, and the birth of Christianity).
• Describe how belief in the resurrection is celebrated during Easter (e.g., Paschal candle, Easter eggs representing new life and the empty tomb).
• Apply the Point + Explanation (PE) framework using active verbs to construct top-level responses for AQA 4-mark examination questions.
TASK BREAKDOWN
- Retrieval Do Now (5 Mins): A silent, independent vocabulary matching task covering core terms (e.g., Resurrection, Incarnation, Omnipotent, Tomb) with a scripture-linking challenge.
- Direct Instruction & World View Analysis: Structured exploration of a hypothetical world without belief in the resurrection, establishing how early witness accounts led to the rapid spread of Christianity.
- Paired Discussion & Gap-Fill Rehearsal: Short tasks analysing how resurrection impacts Christian life, followed by a targeted gap-fill activity focusing on Easter traditions and key terms.
- Instruction on AQA Exam Technique: Direct teaching breaking down the structure of a 4-mark “influence” question, focusing on developed points using action verbs (do, believe, feel) without needing quotes.
- “Show on Zero” Interactive Checking Understanding Quizzes: Fast-paced, whole-class multiple-choice assessments covering key terms, historical evidence, Easter symbolism, and Paschal candle significance.
- Silent Independent Exam Practice (10 Mins): Students complete an AQA 4-mark exam question using a PE writing frame, action verb banks, and a model exemplar response. Includes an extension task on the Incarnation.
