IDEAS / INSTRUCTIONS

BASIC
Print and laminate cards in sets of three (across the page) or individually.
Cards may be cut in sets or individually along the dotted lines, ideal for card games and match-up games.

MIX AND MATCH

  1. Print and cut out flashcards for student use. Laminate flashcards for lasting durability and re-use.
  2. Write the name of each rock or mineral on the reverse side of the cards (or use a different coloured marker pen to place a dot on the reverse of each card to ensure there is no mix-up of sets when shuffling all the cards together.
  3. Shuffle cards and place them face up on the desk.
  4. Try to match each of the three cards to make a flashcard set.
Start off with only a small number in the mix and match game, memorise the details on the card and progress to adding more cards to the mix and match cards.

OTHER GAMES and ACTIVITIES:

Memory:
place flashcards face down and try to match the three parts to each set. This will work only if you haven’t marked the back of the cards with set markers. Ideal option is to print a set that is set aside for memory games (i.e. no marking on the back of the cards), and print a set for other games and activities, where the back is the card is marked with the set name or individual colour for the set.

Study Cards:
Use rocks and minerals cards as study cards, memorising the basic facts and uses for the various rocks and minerals - no need to shuffle or separate the three sections of each flashcard set. Start off with only a few, once you are familiar with these cards add a few more.

The flashcards are well researched and have nice clear photographs of each rock and mineral.
