Screens with a Purpose: Primary Teacher CPD | Illustrated + Editable PowerPoints
Does classroom technology help pupils learn, or use up valuable teaching time?
This research-informed CPD pack helps primary teachers evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of educational technology and choose one classroom change to test.
Two presentation versions are included:
- Illustrated PowerPoint: a ready-to-present, 13-slide session with a 15-minute delivery route.
- Editable PowerPoint: adapt the wording and examples to your school, with a 10-minute delivery route and four hidden supporting slides.
Both versions cover the same CPD topic, giving you a choice of format and session length.
The session includes:
- Benefits for modelling, practice, feedback and access.
- Risks involving distraction, reading, handwriting, workload and equity.
- Classroom examples showing how teaching choices affect technology’s usefulness.
- A three-question test covering learning purpose, comparison with simpler options, and time and attention costs.
- Paired reflection and a plan to test one lesson, check learning and decide what to keep or change.
- Supporting research summaries, reported screen-use concerns and a policy example from New South Wales.
- Presenter notes, suggested timings and references.
Suitable for primary staff meetings, teacher and TA discussion, and individual professional reflection.
Read. Reflect. Act. Leave with one lesson to test and a way to check the learning.
