Shopping task- Working out fractions and percentages of money as well as working with a budget.

This lesson combines practical life skills with finding percentages, using money, finding fractions as well as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing numbers.
The aim of the lesson is to budget to provide one of the characters with a birthday party
First of all, you will assign some of the students in your class some characters that are provided on the PowerPoint.
Each character will have envelope with fake money (not provided) and that will be how much money they earn per month. From that they will be instructed to find a percentage or fraction of the money to spend on the party.
Once they have worked out the total amount they can spend on the party they will then have to buy the products they will need while working in a budget. They will choose from a number of products displayed on a shopping shelf on the power point, these have a number of deals and prices. Making sure they have everything on their shopping list ticked off, they will stick the products on to their trolley.
