This resource contains a PowerPoint lesson and a set of 21 differentiated worksheets on words ending in the suffixes -sion / -ssion. (English programmes of study: Endings which sound like /ʃən/, spelt –tion).
The PowerPoint has 80-slides and contains a variety of activities that introduce, reinforce and consolidate the spelling of these words. It includes:
- Rules for adding the suffix -sion to words ending in -d, -de, -s, -ss, -mit, -el
- A timed activity for pupils working in pairs or groups to find as many -sion words as possible
- An anagram challenge
The worksheets contain tasks that include finding the missing -sion / -ssion words, constructing sentences, word searches, anagrams, changing verbs to nouns by adding the suffix 'sion' or 'ssion' and spelling practice worksheets.
