A gentle SEND and emotional literacy resource pack helping children understand sensory overwhelm through Socks the Sheep.

This printable pack supports children who may feel overwhelmed by noise, lights, scratchy clothes, busy rooms, sudden changes or the “too-muchness” of the world.

Designed for use at home, in classrooms, calm corners, nurture spaces, SEND support, PSHE, wellbeing sessions and emotional literacy work.

Includes:

  • teacher / parent notes
  • how to use the pack
  • gentle discussion questions
  • “What helps Socks feel calm?” worksheet
  • feelings check-in activity
  • calm corner prompt sheet
  • Socks colouring page

This resource is ideal for children who experience sensory overwhelm, big feelings, anxiety, shutdowns, communication differences, masking or feeling misunderstood.

It can also support siblings, classmates and adults to talk about sensory needs, empathy and emotional understanding in a kind, accessible way.

This resource pack can be used on its own, or alongside Socks the Sheep Who Felt Everything, Book One in The Wishing Barn series. Children do not need to have read the full book to use these activities. The full story is available separately as a digital book.

Created as part of The Wishing Barn, a gentle children’s story world helping children understand themselves and each other through animal stories.
