Solving Equations with One Step is a complete, editable Year 7 Core PowerPoint lesson designed for confident classroom delivery without printing or additional worksheets.

The lesson develops the key idea that an equation states that two expressions have equal value. Pupils learn to preserve equality by applying the same inverse operation to both sides, then check a solution by substitution into the original equation.

The structured I Do–We Do–You Do sequence includes:
• a six-question retrieval starter with answers;
• clear vocabulary and representation slides;
• three matched I Do–We Do pairs with large blank modelling space;
• progressive I Do reveal slides that keep every We Do answer concealed;
• one dedicated We Do solutions slide;
• exactly 12 mini-whiteboard AFL questions with immediate answers;
• 24 minimally different one-step equations, ordered by controlled variation;
• one-slide tiered practice covering Developing, Secure, Greater Depth and Super Challenge;
• error analysis, comparison, equation construction and solution checking;
• misconception diagnosis, problem solving, challenge and exam-style practice;
• an exit check and complete worked answers throughout.

Greater Depth questions deepen the same core process through error analysis, comparison and construction rather than drifting into unrelated algebra. The Super Challenge asks pupils to create, solve and verify four equations that share a solution.

Suitable for Year 7, Key Stage 3 intervention, cover lessons, revision or departmental curriculum use. All pupil-facing content is contained in the editable PowerPoint and can be taught as a standalone, print-free lesson.
