Teach pupils to solve single inequalities with this editable, 60-slide Year 8 maths PowerPoint. Original examples and practice develop inverse operations, interpretation of inequality symbols and the distinction between a boundary value and an integer solution.
Designed for print-free teaching: project the questions while pupils work in exercise books or respond on mini-whiteboards. The 24-question practice set and the differentiated whole-class task each fit on one screen.
WHAT IS INCLUDED?
• One editable PowerPoint containing 60 slides.
• Six retrieval questions and six prerequisite questions, each with grouped answers.
• Definitions of solution set, inverse operation, boundary value and integer solution.
• Teaching slides on inverse operations, a variable on the right and reversing the sign when multiplying or dividing by a negative number.
• Six matched I Do/We Do questions in a three-column, two-row layout, with separate worked answers.
• Twenty AFL questions, each immediately followed by its answer.
• One practice page with 24 questions and a matching answer page.
• One differentiated page with eight Developing, eight Secure and five Greater Depth questions plus a Super Challenge.
• Separate Developing, Secure and Greater Depth answer slides, an explained challenge solution and a final reminder.
MODELLING AND PROGRESSION
Matched examples progress from a one-step inequality to a two-step inequality and then a fraction-and-decimal example. The teacher and pupil questions use the same method with different values. Prompts sit above space for teacher working, with solutions provided separately.
ONE-PAGE PRACTICE
Three columns contain eight questions each: one-step inequalities, two-step inequalities, and inequalities involving fractions and decimals. Within each column, controlled changes to constants, signs and operations encourage careful comparisons. Pupils practise strict and inclusive inequalities, negative values and changing the operation needed to isolate the variable.
DIFFERENTIATED APPLICATION
Developing consolidates the taught methods with fresh questions. Secure adds variables on the right, division by negative numbers, greatest and least integer solutions, a taxi-cost context and checking a proposed value. Greater Depth asks pupils to construct inequalities, explain counterexamples, compare integer and real solution sets, find possible boundaries and evaluate a claim about subtracting negative numbers.
SUPER CHALLENGE
Pupils find every whole-number boundary that makes 7 the greatest integer solution of an inequality. They then replace the strict sign with an inclusive sign and explain how the possible boundaries change. The solution establishes completeness by including 7 and excluding the next integer. A divider separates the challenge from the other tasks on the shared page.

A bundle is a package of resources grouped together to teach a particular topic, or a series of lessons, in one place.
Straight-Line Graphs and Inequalities Bundle | I Do, We Do, You Do | Year 8 Maths | Print Free
Editable Beyond Printables Year 8 maths PowerPoints. Project modelling, practice and answers; pupils can work in exercise books. The exact TES titles and resource numbers identify every included lesson. EXACT LESSONS INCLUDED (1) M797 — Horizontal, Vertical and Diagonal Lines | I Do, We Do, You Do | Year 8 Maths | Print Free [TES 13586457] (2) M932 — Plotting Straight Line Graphs | I Do, We Do, You Do | Year 8 Maths | Print Free [TES 13586480] (3) M544 — Equations of Straight Line Graphs | I Do, We Do, You Do | Year 8 Maths | Print Free [TES 13586483] (4) M384 — Reading and Drawing Inequalities | I Do, We Do, You Do | Year 8 Maths | Print Free [TES 13587248] (5) M118 — Solving Single Inequalities | I Do, We Do, You Do | Year 8 Maths | Print Free [TES 13587322] Each lesson includes retrieval or prerequisite work, modelling, assessment checks, practice and differentiated questions with answers. Choose Developing, Secure or Greater Depth tasks for the class. Super Challenge questions extend reasoning within the topic. The presentations are editable. Keep questions with their matching answers when adapting the lesson for a particular class. The bundles overlap: lessons also occur in the relevant subject collection and complete Year 8 collection. Check the list before buying twice. Use the presentations in sequence or select a lesson for targeted KS3 revision. Allow pupils time to explain their methods and check their answers. Print free means worksheets are not required; pupils may need exercise books, squared paper or geometry equipment for particular tasks. These are original Beyond Printables teaching resources; they are not official Sparx products or access to the Sparx platform. The lesson files are separate PowerPoints, so a teacher can locate and reopen a single topic without working through the whole bundle. Teachers can pause on a modelled example, invite a pupil explanation, then reveal and discuss the worked answer before continuing. The guided examples support this classroom routine. The independent questions are intended for written working, not just a final answer. Pupils can compare a calculation, diagram or explanation with the displayed answer and correct it. A teacher can start a lesson with retrieval, use the checks on mini-whiteboards and direct pupils to practice suited to their current understanding. The presentation can be revisited later. For a revision lesson, select a short run of examples and practice rather than presenting every slide. For first teaching, allow more time for discussion and checking misconceptions. Where a question asks for reasoning, encourage pupils to state why the method applies. Comparing two plausible approaches can expose an error before pupils move to a new example. Editable slides make it possible to adapt a number or context for a class. Recheck the corresponding worked answer whenever a question is changed.
