Sonnet 116 Shakespeare A Level

Sonnet 116 by William Shakespeare, a one hour lesson designed for KS5 students preparing for AQA Love Through The Ages (Paper 1, Spec A 7712) or for unseen poetry exam questions for any of the exam boards like Eduqas, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC. The lesson explores language and structure,in particular how the writer adapts the petrarchan sonnet structure for his own purposes, and uses metaphors, motifs and images around stars, the universe and navigation to convey his thoughts and feelings on love and faithfulness.

Additionally, we make connections and comparisons to Whoso List to Hunt by Sir Thomas Wyatt. Comparison skills are essential for Section C of Paper 1. The resource provides many pages of notes for teachers and students around key themes, images, contexts and more.

Designed for the A-level spec, it includes discussion questions and topics for students, as well as a range of activities.
