Spooky Spanish: A Real Coffin Procession!

Living people… inside coffins?!
Every year on 29 July, in the Galician village of As Neves, people who have survived a serious illness or accident give thanks to Santa Marta by taking part in a procession, lying in open coffins carried by their families and friends. It’s one of Spain’s strangest festivals, and this short resource introduces it to Year 7–8 using simple present-tense Spanish.
Three quick tasks on the interactive page:
• Lee y descubre: two short texts with tap-to-translate words and audio, then true/false questions.
• La procesión en orden: put the events of the day in order using primero, después, luego, al final.
• ¿Qué opinas?: rate the festival out of five skulls and build an opinion: Creo que la fiesta es fascinante porque es muy diferente. Every option has an English translation.
