Spooky Spanish Ghost Legend: Interactive Task

An interactive, homework-ready KS3 Spanish activity on the Santa Compaña, a spooky Galician legend: short texts, a worksheet and answers. Y7–8, 15–20 min.

Midnight. Fog. The smell of candle wax… and little bells.
In Galician legend, the Santa Compaña is a procession of souls that walks the paths at midnight, led by a living person carrying a cross. Can your students spot the signs and survive? This short, spooky resource uses simple present-tense Spanish for Year 7–8.

Three quick tasks on the interactive page:

• Lee y descubre: two short texts with tap-to-translate words and audio, then true/false questions. • Las señales: choose the four warning signs that the procession is near (watch out for the decoys!). • ¿Qué haces?: a choose-your-path story with three "bad" endings and one way to survive. Then give advice with Tienes que… / No debes…, and the page checks that the advice makes sense. Every scene, choice and advice option has an English translation, so all students can follow.

What’s included:

• an interactive HTML page that works offline, with audio and self-checking tasks, and saves progress • a one-page worksheet that matches it, with English support for the story and advice tasks • a teacher page with answers, a cultural note, sensitivity guidance and translations of every text and story scene • an optional student vocab list to print and cut (two per page)

Perfect for homework: each task reveals letters of a secret code. Students write it on their worksheet, so you can see at a glance who finished.

Language covered: present tense (hay, huele a, oyes, caminan), tienes que / no debes + infinitive, and key vocabulary (el alma, la vela, la cruz, la niebla).

Flexible use: homework, a starter or plenary, a cover lesson, or a spooky Halloween-season activity in class.

Part of the Fiestas misteriosas unit. Also available: San Andrés de Teixido and Samaín.

Tip: if your VLE or Google Drive shows code instead of the page, download the HTML file and open it in any browser.
