This lesson introduces structural isomerism at AS Level.
There is first a recap on naming compounds and skeletal formula.
Students then work out what is meant by isomerism by comparing hexane and 2-methylpentane.
They then use some pairs of compounds to work out the three different types of structural isomers: chain, position and functional group.
After going through the answers, students then practice some application questions on the three structural isomerism types. This also assesses their understanding of naming compounds and using different types of formula to represent compounds.
There are some past paper questions on structural isomers that follow.
All answers are given throughout the PowerPoint.
