This inspirational CPD session is designed for relatively small numbers of teaching staff (between 4-16) where focused discussion allows time for staff to reflect on their own practice, and consider strategies that may drive their own practice from good to outstanding. This CPD package can be delivered in one or two hour-long sessions depending on the level of discussion that is initiated. This package works well as a discrete session or as an introductory session to further CPD sessions developing best practice. I have included a presentation, activity resources and further written information which includes the rationale behind each slide and activity including any discussion points that may enhance your delivery of the session.

Session objectives:

• Consider the qualities of an outstanding teacher and discuss what creates the spark in an amazing lesson.
• Familiarise yourself with what Ofsted considers to be outstanding teaching and learning.
• Discuss how your own school judges data and the achievement and attainment of students.
• Discuss what outstanding practice of various teaching and learning strategies looks like.
• Prioritise which strategies will have the biggest impact in your classroom.

Thank you for this resource - I used it with a group of 25 visiting secondary teachers from China (Shenzhen) - it provided the basis of an excellent session to highlight how British secondary teachers see themselves in relation to becoming Outstanding Teachers - and prompted lively discussion around the differences between here and our colleagues in Far East Asia. Thank you Helen! (Penny, University of Warwick)
