Want to develop a deep understanding of measuring length whilst having some Christmas fun? This lesson with supporting resources is to accompany the Christmas Maths picture book ‘The Littlest Reindeer’ by Brandi Dougherty.
The lesson begins with an introduction to measuring length in centimetres and moves on to a practical activity where children audition to be Santa’s latest reindeer by seeing who can jump the furthest. The students measure the lengths using tape measures to see who has the longest jump and can become Santa’s newest addition to his sleigh squad!
A fun, practical fusion of reading comprehension, Maths and Christmas, the children will be super engaged with the fun story and the hands-on, practical exploration activity. A fun way to introduce or consolidate measuring length; this lesson focuses on practical skills whilst having lots of fun, and requires very little additional resources.
