Want to develop a deep understanding of division through equal sharing? This is 1 long or 2 shorter lessons with supporting resources to accompany the Maths picture book ‘The Perfect Split’ by Lori Haskins Houran. This lesson works up to the number 30 to share across a pizza split in to 6, but this can easily be reduced if you wanted to take the introduction to the concept of division a little slower for younger children.
A fun, practical fusion of reading comprehension, Maths and independent investigation, the children will be super engaged with the fun story and the hands-on, practical related investigations. A fun way to introduce or consolidate the concept; this lesson encourages the children to practise sharing equally and fairly, and invites them to notice which numbers share equally and which don’t (odd and even numbers).
This pack contains:
- Detailed Maths lesson plan
- Key Comprehension Questions for read-aloud
- 4 x Printable worksheets/resources to accompany the activities
- Task instructions on Powerpoint
Additional resources needed:
- The book ‘The Perfect Split’ by Lori Haskins Houran (FYI there are YouTube readings if budget is low!)
