AQA GCSE Geography lesson for Unit 2A: In this lesson we introduce the case study city of Rio de Janeiro and look at the reasons for the city’s growth.

We start with a multiple-choice starter based upon the urbanisation lesson previously taught. We then start by looking at the location of Rio and the students complete a paragraph describing Rio’s location. We then look at the human and physical features and attractions of the city. The students watch a video clip and populate a table with human and physical attractions. We then use data to create a line graph showing population growth in the city and the students can answer questions on the graph. Following this the students then complete guided reading activity and answer questions regarding migration (both internal and international) and natural increase as causes of population growth.

We finish with 6 mark GCSE-style question and the students have some tips and guidance on how to answer it if required.

Hope this saves you some valuable planning time.
