Teach translation with this editable, 71-slide Year 8 maths PowerPoint. Pupils identify corresponding vertices, apply horizontal and vertical movements, describe translations and recover original coordinates. Every vertex moves by the same amount, preserving size, shape and orientation.

Designed for print-free teaching: pupils write coordinates in exercise books or on mini-whiteboards. They do not need to copy grids, draw transformed shapes or use printed worksheets. Projected diagrams support understanding, and visual answer checks show the original shape alongside its image.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?
• One editable PowerPoint containing 71 slides.
• Six retrieval questions with grouped answers.
• Six prerequisite questions with grouped answers.
• Illustrated vocabulary covering translation, object, image, vertices, corresponding vertices and orientation.
• Teaching examples showing what a translation preserves.
• Six matched I Do/We Do examples with worked answers.
• Twenty AFL questions, each immediately followed by its answer slide.
• Twenty-four minimally different practice questions, with coordinate answers and visual checks.
• Eight Developing, eight Secure and five Greater Depth questions, plus a two-part Super Challenge, on one page.
• Answers for every differentiated question and both challenge parts.

MODELLING AND GUIDED PRACTICE
The six examples form three matched pairs: (1) with (4), (2) with (5), and (3) with (6). Pupils begin with horizontal translations, combine horizontal and vertical movements, then undo a translation to recover the original vertices. Worked examples show the changes and resulting coordinates.

PRACTICE AND PROGRESSION
The main practice page contains 24 questions using one displayed triangle. Controlled changes connect rightward and upward movements with leftward and downward movements. Pupils return to the original triangle for each question and list the new coordinates in the same vertex order.

Developing uses a different triangle and eight translations. Secure includes describing a translation from coordinates, recovering originals, transferring a movement to another point, combining translations and checking an image vertex. Greater Depth asks pupils to explain inconsistent movements, incomplete vertex checks, preserved area, the order of translations and fixed points.

SUPER CHALLENGE
Pupils find a translation that places a triangle against both axes without crossing them, then justify why it is unique. A second condition places two vertices on the axes and the remaining vertex in the third quadrant. Worked solutions explain how the coordinate constraints determine the movements.

CLASSROOM PRESENTATION
Grids use square cells, stronger grid lines and coordinate numbers beside the axes. Practice answer diagrams show one image at a time alongside the original. A divider separates the Super Challenge from the other levels.

Suitable for Year 8, KS3 consolidation, tutoring and revision. Topic reference: M139.

Choose Developing, Secure or Greater Depth tasks for the class. Super Challenge questions extend reasoning within the topic. The presentations are editable. Keep questions with their matching answers when adapting the lesson for a particular class. The bundles overlap: lessons also occur in the relevant subject collection and complete Year 8 collection. Check the list before buying twice. Use the presentations in sequence or select a lesson for targeted KS3 revision. Allow pupils time to explain their methods and check their answers. Print free means worksheets are not required; pupils may need exercise books, squared paper or geometry equipment for particular tasks. These are original Beyond Printables teaching resources; they are not official Sparx products or access to the Sparx platform. The lesson files are separate PowerPoints, so a teacher can locate and reopen a single topic without working through the whole bundle. Teachers can pause on a modelled example, invite a pupil explanation, then reveal and discuss the worked answer before continuing. The guided examples support this classroom routine. The independent questions are intended for written working, not just a final answer. Pupils can compare a calculation, diagram or explanation with the displayed answer and correct it. A teacher can start a lesson with retrieval, use the checks on mini-whiteboards and direct pupils to practice suited to their current understanding. The presentation can be revisited later. Answers are included.

For a revision lesson, select a short run of examples and practice rather than presenting every slide. For first teaching, allow more time for discussion and checking misconceptions. Where a question asks for reasoning, encourage pupils to state why the method applies. Comparing two plausible approaches can expose an error before pupils move to a new example. Editable slides make it possible to adapt a number or context for a class. Recheck the corresponding worked answer whenever a question is changed. Answers are included.
