Non Fiction - Travel Writing KS3 SOW

A Non-Fiction unit of work consisting of at least 19 Lessons, with a variety of activities. Non-Fiction Texts include: * Adverts from different travel companies and destinations * An extract from A Moveable Feast By Ernest Hemingway * An extract from The Bazaars of Baghdad by Isabella Bird * An article on Staycations * A review of Disneyland Paris and Tomb of The Kings (Paphos, Cyprus) * Fact files on travel destinations * An extract from An Idiot Abroad by Karl Pilkington (the visit to Egypt) * An extract from In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson (The Great Barrier Reef). * Two adverts (1 visual, 1 written) from Studios Tour London - the Harry Potter experience. * An article giving advice on becoming a travel writer * Brochures for holiday destinations . Resources include: * A writing assessment on writing a letter of complaint and plenty of language/summary questions that could be adapted to be a reading assessment. * Two alternative creative writing lessons that could be used as an alternative writing assessment. * A range of activities for each lesson * Repeat questions for each lesson * A variety of non-fiction texts. * A variety of analytical questions and creative writing activities. * A fun lesson on planning a holiday with numeracy skills * Repeat questions at the start of each lesson based upon the prior lesson(s) * A fun optional lesson where pupils write a critical review of Westeros as a travel destination
