This lesson introduces tropical storms as a coastal hazard, beginning with how tropical storms form, where they occur and the conditions required for their development. Students then examine the impacts tropical storms have on coastal areas, including social, economic and environmental effects.
The second part of the lesson applies this knowledge to the named case study of Typhoon Haiyan (Philippines, 2013). Students analyse why the impacts were severe and assess both immediate and long-term responses to the storm.
Fully aligned with the Cambridge IGCSE Geography (0460) syllabus and suitable for GCSE Geography.
