Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan

AQA ALevel History Paper 2C
Lesson 4 (week 4- all my lessons are doubles so this is actually lesson 7 and 8 if using one hour lessons).

Covers the development of Truman doctrine through the key speeches, telegrams etc of the time teaching crucial AO2 skills as well as content. With a homework/ in class assessment in 20 mins to do a practice AO2 with Truman’s Fateful Hour speech for Q1.

This lessons worked really well this year as a way to teach content through primary sources to develop more of the skills of an historian to help students get to grips with this key skill at ALevel.

Includes retrieval quiz with answers, all sources and source analysis and evaluation sheet as well as a sheet to explain the impact of each speech/ telegram and how it increased tensions.

Churchill’s Iron Curtain speech
Novokov Telegram and Stalin’s rant in Pravda

Truman’s Fateful Hour speech linked to the Greek Civil War and some homework/ research/ notes on the Greek Civil War.
Very comprehensive- easily 2 hours for an able ALevel group but could be spread across 3 lessons to fully explore and discuss all aspects.
