Edexcel Politics Alevel Lessons on Ideologies as a whole and Liberalism as a topic for the Edexcel 2017 spec. I teach Liberalism first because it makes MUCH more sense since it was developed first as an Ideology and Conservatism was a response to it. This bundle includes the first 7 lessons (2 hours each) intro and activities, Core Values with independent research (uses hand outs from Pearson and Haywood book) and Explanation of the Core Values but you could use some of the slides if you don’t have the textbook. Lesson 5 ends up developing a plan for the essay: To what extent do Liberals agree on the State? (24 marks) I taught these lessons to my Year 13 class and they worked really well for discussion. This assembly is based on this year’s theme- reclaiming the Narrative as well as highlighting how easily false narratives have spread. Examines the role of racial bias in the media and politics in the UK and the riots of 2024 as well as the insideous nature of the anti-Haitian rhetoric from some in the USA. Idea is to promote awareness of the danger of misinformation and to encourage students to challenge one sided narratives especially if they are hateful. Hate teaching Electoral Systems? I used to as well- no matter how I taught them- students could never remember the differences and strengths and weaknesses. Edexcel Politics ALevel can be used for any spec- (Note may now be slightly out of date as the Mayoral elections have changed system) and list no longer used This resource was created after 10 years of frustration! It is designed to let students explore the different systems for themselves- engaging with the ballot forms and trying to work out how they work and the strengths and weaknesses for themselves. When I used this for the first time last year the students remembered the systems so much better than ever before and were able to evaluate them really well. Accompanying powerpoint and worksheets to go with the interactive ballot activity and card sort. This resource covers 5-6 hours of teaching on electoral systems including a detailed evaluation of FPTP and a comparison to other electoral systems as a legacy of the Jenkins commission. It covers most of the Elections topic just nothing on Referendums. All videos except one are embedded for your convenience- the other was too large! A huge bundle of example answers for ALevel Russia 1894-1941 - OCR ALevel course but can be adapted for any exam board. OCR uses 20 mark “How far do you agree?” style open essays and 10 mark shorter questions in which students must only compare 2 factors as a more important cause or consequence of something. These answers are all A-A* grade responses. Edexcel GCSE lesson on Persecution of Minorities in Nazi Germany Includes detail of persecution of Slavs, Roma and Sinti Peoples, Jews, People living with disabilities/ mental illness and Homosexuals with some video clips and case studies. Also includes exam skills questions on Kristallnacht and a source skills modelling activity to teach inferences and how to write Q3 a, b, c and d questions for Paper 3 which students struggle with.

Edexcel GCSE Superpower relations Key Topic 2: Cold War Crises Lesson 4 The Cuban Missile Crisis 1962 This lesson follows my lesson on the Cuban Revolution and Bay of Pigs invasion It examines the events of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Khrushchev’s defence of sending missiles to Cuba and Kennedy’s decision making as well as the divisive advice from the Hawks and Doves in foreign and defence policy. The consequences of Cuban Missile Crisis are also covered alongside an 8 mark write a narrative account question. Also includes a gap fill model answer to the Explain two consequences of the Bay of Pigs invasion question including an SEND version with words to use to make it easier.

Edexcel ALevel Politics- can be adapted to AQA. This lesson (3 hours worth of work) uses the newest Bennett chapters (although almost all key notes are on slides). Examines similarities/ differences between UK and US Constitutions in terms of the three branches of government, nature/ origins, Federalism/ Devolution and also the Comparative theories.

Lesson for GCSE History Weimar and Nazi Germany Edexcel spec but can easily be adapted to any other Germany spec which requires a lesson about the impact of WWI or indeed KS3 History. This is lesson 1 from my unit of work on Weimar Germany 1918-1929 Lesson 1: Intro to topic and WWI Context This lesson examines the impact of WWI on Germany following the Armistice setting context for the German Revolution. Edexcel Politics ALevel Specification from 2017 but can be used for AQA also if slightly adapted - Comparative USA/ UK Politics Mega planning grid with many different 12 markers for US Comparative Government (not the theory questions) which has a mixture of fully planned answers, partially planned answers and blank for students to plan as a revision tool. Includes all the past paper questions (12 markers) and recent and relevant examples (updated for 2023) for the ones which are planned. My students have found these grids really useful. Lesson examining and analysing compartive Politics looking at various aspects of USA President and UK Prime Ministers including: -Role and Powers -Cabinets -Accountability to Legislatures/ Checks and balances -Styles of Government -RElationships between branches Also includes updated examples as of January 2024 including James Cleverly controversies and attempts to impeach Biden in US House due to increasing partisanship Includes little video clips to demonstrate examples or show comparisons and a full breakdown of the comparative theories for this topic. Includes a colour code to help students get used to understanding the different theories and how to apply them. Very detailed and no need for any additional resources although can be set as independent work with textbook but all info is contained within resources so no need to own the Bennett book- if you don’t have it ignore page references in the teacher notes. This lesson has a lot of resources, more than enough for 2 hours of lessons (probably 3 hours if you include video tasks) plus homework and there is a 12 mark exam question for Edexcel included.

Introduction lesson to Voting Behaviour and the Media This lesson introduces students to the concept of studying voting behaviour and examines factors which may affect voting behaviour. The idea is that students are then given case studies to produce and present on an individual election. Includes powerpoint on intro lesson which covers 1979 and 1997 key case studies as an overview of what happened in each election.
