A powerpoint to introduce the main types of quadrilaterals. I had a range of quadrilaterals (rectangles, parallelograms, kites etc.) cut out in advance and gave one to each pupil. I gave LA pupils the squares and rectangles to make measuring the angles easier. As we introduced each shape they sorted themselves into yes or no. I found that this approach helped show that a square is also a rectangle, rhombus and parallelogram...much to some pupils' amazement! Finally they tore the 4 corners off their shape and discovered they made a circle i.e. 360 degrees.

Thanks for sharing this - I really like the investigative approach of revealing the properties so that it gives the pupils a chance to think about them step by step.
