Using Hard to Handle Issues in Drama Devising

Tackling sensitive, hard, controversial themes in devised drama can be challenging.
This scheme of 6 two-hour lessons suggests ways of tackling issues to broaden characters and to meet head on some of the subjects that polarise views and divide society.
It encourages thinking and understanding through the ‘Outsider’ concept in topics such as race, sexuality, gender, culture, politics and differently-abled.
The approach may be used in exploring other hard subjects including suicide, AI, teenage pregnancy, domestic abuse, porn, tribal loyalty, generational conflict, addiction, OCD and anxiety.
It aids learning in devising techniques and is useful for all exam boards.
