Let pupils write real code with this visual, colourful, hands-on Year 8 computing lesson. The PowerPoint explains how a web page reaches the browser, then teaches the HTML skeleton, headings, paragraphs, lists, links and images, with attributes such as src and alt. Pupils then add CSS: selectors, properties and values, colour, text, spacing and borders, with a worked example that changes one thing at a time. A “Spot the bug” slide builds debugging skills with typical errors such as missing slashes, colons and semicolons. Accessibility is built in through contrast, alt text and clear structure. Two interactive activities, building a first page and designing a page for a club, need only a text editor and a browser. A misconceptions slide separates HTML from programming languages and CSS. It is non-specialist friendly, ideal as a cover lesson, and builds towards GCSE Computer Science by developing precision, syntax and computational thinking. About 15 slides, one hour.
